Directly responsible to the Staff Captain. He:

Supervises the efficient working routine of the deck ratings.

Ensures the cleanliness and tidiness of the ship’s decks.

Checks the condition and maintenance of mooring ropes and wires, all other lines cordage, running gear and lifting wires and ropes, appliances.

Checks the maintenance of steelwork and paintwork etc. on open decks and ship’s sides.

Checks the adequate supply of paint and deck stores.

Sounds and records soundings of water tanks and bilges
